Title: animating a horizontal pan accross mandelbrot surfaces with color cycling
Post by: LetItGrow on March 20, 2017, 02:02:40 AM
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for software that can be used to animate movement across 2d fractals in more of a horizontal pan fashion, rather than zooming. Additionally, I am trying to animate color cycling at the same time, so it appears the viewer is watching the camera pan horizontally across a fractal landscape with a color-changing background, but not zooming.

Here's a link showing exactly what I am trying to do: https://youtu.be/Lk6QU94xAb8?t=50m26s
 (https://youtu.be/Lk6QU94xAb8?t=50m26s) see time = 50:00

From what I have gathered through reading and trial/error, many of our popular tools for animating Mandelbrot zooms (KF, fractal extreme, mandelmachine, etc) perform very well animating movement along the Z axis, but the lack of a keyframe-based process for animation does not allow for animation across X and Y solely.

I have had moderate success with 'side scrolling' type animation in ChaosPro 4, however I don't think it can render animated movement and color cycling to video simultaneously. Likewise, I have had mild success in Ultrafractal, but I seem to be limited to having a path of travel between only two points. Admittedly, I need to do more work experimenting UF to see if I can figure out a way animate panning.

I hope I have made my question clear, and I appreciate any and all feedback thanks!

Kalles Fraktaler can do scrolling to the left, although I never got it to work.

I've done a couple of side-scrolling movies:

This one is combined with rotation, that makes the scrolling look like it is going in different directions:
