Title: Flight into the Mandelbox Post by: mitocondriac on February 27, 2017, 01:18:27 PM This is my first attempt at creating a ray tracing algorithm to "fly" inside a Mandelbox. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6LYdqv0aRw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6LYdqv0aRw) I would actually appreciate any feedback on how to improve this from an "arts" perspective. I I confess that this looks a little "bland" to me ... especially as the camera dives deeper and deeper into the box ... where it feels more and more like you are flying into swiss cheese ... not a fractal. 'm good with coding and the algorithms work fine, but I'm not that experienced with techniques to make ray tracing or fractal rendering look "better" from an visual/artistic perspective. Am I getting the lighting wrong? Is there a preferred technique to render colors for a Mandlebox? Is there a technique to get more details as the camera gets closer and deeper? It feels that the fractal is full of promise from a distance but as it gets closer it just gets ... plain. Or is it just me? Thanks! |
