Title: Mandelbulb3D for Win v1.0
Post by: Jesse on February 02, 2010, 05:20:43 PM
I decided to release it, even not all options i would like to have are implemented.

But it should be a good option for those who had nothing to play yet.

Please read the textfile inside the attached archiv before making questions.
And excuse me if my english isnt that good.

I just managed to implement the "Cathedral" from Tglad as option :-)

Installation is not necessary, but please check any downloaded .exe's for viruses!

PS: sorry for the RAR compressed file, but zip was bigger than 256KB.
If the size limiting goes on, i cant w

Thanx and may i suggest 7zip for high compression :) http://www.7-zip.org/

7zip looks fine, but i had to pack the packed into zip because 7z is not allowed for posting... (also a kind of iterating)

7zip's zip compression is better than winzip's ;)

if you would like to have a download location for your program tell me, and i can put it on the server,
i will not adjust the attachment sizes any further, because attachments are kinda lost, in cyberspace
if a thread grows bigger and bigger, i have activated the feature for small attachments, but space
is limited, and thus too many too big attachments would crush the system, if you like i put it in a simple
folder so that you could hard link it, and i would upload latest versions as needed  :police: :police: :police: O0

Thank you, that would be the best until i have a homepage for it (can take some weeks).

So here is the the link for downloading the latest version, actually 1.1!

http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=5 (http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=5)

What is new in Version 1.1:

- New options in the "bad math" and in the "supercubes" (was: cathedral) formulas.
- DEstop for supercubes is better scaled, instead of 15 use now 3 for example.
- Shadow based on DEcount is shown in the Lighting window and has better options.
- 3D cutting and seperate color adjustment for the interior of the bulb.
- A BMP can be used for the Diffuse color on the normals.
- Parameter or M3I is loaded on startup, when throwing a file on the program icon.
- Filenames for saving are set according to loaded files.
- Some functions should be faster, so the supercubes.
- A better memory manager is used, good for very big renderings.
(Be aware that 1 pixel needs up to 32 Bytes memory consumption!)
- The 3 buttons for mouse zooming+shifting can be disabled (click on the pushed
button to bring all up) so that no image-click can happen by accident after 3D
  calculation.
- Changes to the edit fields now also have an effect when calculating 2D slices.

i wonder where to set the detail level

This is done by choosing a lower "DEstop" value in the Calculation tab.
The value is based roughly on a 0.2 pixel width (value=1), not matched up exactly with the formulas.

So for a better quality (have to to make some presets), use these settings:
DEstop: ~2
DEaccuracy: 3...4 (standard bulbs, supercubes >= 6)
Binary search steps: 7..8

In higher zoomings you may have to set the maximum iterations value bigger than 30.

Just found a little bug:
When calculating with hard shadow on and saving afterwards the parameter or M3I, the program lost the knowledge of HS calculation and the displaying is changed.
I fixed this (and added the "Fuzzy" formula), here is the direct link:

Very nice program. The feature that I like the most is the realtime colouring :) (wich explains the 32 bytes required per pixel I guess)

Thanks, the image itself needs just 12 bytes, like when it is saved as "m3i" file.
Up to additional 20 bytes are needed when calculating the ambient shadow.

Hi, thank you for this nice software.
I can't render animations using 'slice' feature.
I always get the same slice; how does it work?
Thanks
