Using maths to describe the world always sounds so 'theoretical', but in the end...

Here's one for you: http://petapixel.com/2013/05/17/scientist-creates-and-snaps-photographs-of-microscopic-crystal-flowers/

  Wow.  Those are cool.

Wow this is really great!

I've only seen those huge grid 2D cellular automata, never seen it in 3D and in this fine resolution. Very nice indeed.

What exactly is a coupled cellular automata anywat ... ?

In reaction to those microscopic flowers. Somehow I really prefer the black and white image. I recall someone saying "shape is stronger than color".

I played a bit with a variant system similar to reaction-diffusion : https://mathr.co.uk/blog/2017-03-23_coupled_continuous_cellular_automata.html

Shame the HQ mode (proper Gaussian blur instead of mipmap reduction) is so much slower, it's much prettier!

Ok I uploaded MP4 and WEBM instead of just OGG, should work better now I hope.  Also added another video with the current state of the code (high quality mode with mutation).  Let me know if you still have problems.

For those interested, this is the correct blog post explaining my methods for these Coupled CAs
https://softologyblog.wordpress.com/2016/11/17/more-experiments-with-coupled-cellular-automata/

They came about by trying to replicate Jonathan McCabe's coupled CAs

Who would have guessed cellular automata could model the behavior of cells! ;D

Somewhat off-topic but, this is by far my favourite fractal blog, consistently informative and interesting :) Great job Jason!
