Title: Too Many Crashes
Post by: CCV on December 17, 2016, 02:50:08 AM
In reference to http://www.fractalforums.com/bug-reporting-b231/2-08-3-constant-crashing-'no-symbol-file-loaded''/ where it appears I am unable to post reply.

And, anyway, this is about version 2.90-3 now.
The Symbols thing, it turns out, is irrelevant too

Been watching this problem for a while, and now it seems to me that very frequent crashing is somehow associated with Windows Updates.
By very frequent I mean after almost every move I make under Navigation. Even sometimes clicking Render alone without any adjustments, which is quite unusual.
Otherwise, and most of the time, it takes a series of manipulations in Navigation before a crash occurs - mostly about 30% through rendering.

My solution to too many crashes is to uninstall the program, reboot and reinstall. Then it crashes twice, as a rule, unless I relaunch it because the image preview (or, less often, the progress bar) stops working.
It is worth checking with Visual Studio, I find, because the "exception" has to do with ntdll.dll almost as often as with QT and VS can handle that one.

Speaking of memory leaks, lately I've been seeing messages regarding some memory error or other when shutting down. That's on three machines all with Mandelbulber installed, but in one case only installed - not used at all - so I can't be sure what's causing them.
Can anyone, please, suggest a Windows app to check for memory leaks in Mandelbulber?
I did have a look for one, but don't know what would be best

Thank you.

I know that in dev V2.10 there has been some testing and issues fixed relating to memory leaks, and most of my crash problems are also gone ( i have also just reinstalled Ubuntu and QT Creator)

So if you can complile the latest dev version, you may get some relief. Otherwise it will be interesting to see if the issues disappear when V2.10 is released.  :)

Thanks, mclarekin. I'm utterly clueless about compiling. Anyway, I'm not even sure it's possible with Windoze. Something for me to look into in my 'spare time', I guess..
Otherwise, yeh, looking forward to new release version. :)

Btw., another thing that tends to crash (even if nothing else does) is Undo.
