Title: Custom 3D Fractal Design
Post by: Locikittie on November 10, 2016, 06:12:10 AM
Imagine that I have designed a 3d tower with cool gargoyl style pillars, and other cool stuff on it, maybe a walk way and etc. Now I want to take this 3d model as it is and run it through a program that allows me to turn it into a 3d fractal without having to physically copy, paste, and resize the tower over and over...and over. Is there a program of any sort that will allow me to do this? Or better yet, a program that would do this and also has the ability to extrude a 3d model from a 2d image. If anyone knows of such a program please let me know, cause I very much wish to create fractal landscapes using this method.

Hello and welcome to the forums   O0

I'm not aware of many fractal generators that import obj files the way you intend to use them.

Some will work with them, either directly or indirectly  (via Height Maps or "Z Buffers" or whatever your particular 3D Program calls them).

JWildfire will make use of obj files in it's next version  (unless it's released already and I missed it!) and Mandelbulb3D can use Height Maps.

There are threads here for both, but I am doing several things at once right now and will look for them later if they don't turn up all by themselves.

I believe I heard that Incendia allows import of 3D Models, but never saw the feature so can't be certain.

Either way, if you wanted to just create many "instances" of your model, most 3D Programs have a feature for that called anything from "Clone" to "Duplicate" or even "Replicate."  Most offer ways to randomly distribute the copies, or influence where they go via a "Distribution Map" of some kind.

Without knowing more about what you mean by "turn it into a 3d fractal" I can't offer much more than that.

Good Luck with it!

you need to use Incendia :)

Use a heightmap for extrusion.
