Title: north facing spike 48 x 80000 pixels
Post by: jwm-art on January 15, 2010, 08:24:53 PM
just tried to upload this to fractal forums, got a 501 internal server erro  :o

but it's up here if you want to look:

but your web browser probably won't want to deal with an 80000 pixel tall image either, so get those right-click tricks out and save somewhere where you can view it in an image editor.

A Mandelbrot. Guess I could say a bit more about it.  the coords are:
xmin -7.5000000091949231989130608e-1
xmax -7.4999999920967637003993457e-1
ymax -1.2238077690638218538926013e-5

not even getting into arbitrary precision yet, thankfully, as it was calculated to 500000 iterations. Was inspired by a post somewhere on here mentioning deep zooming with a link to hpdz.met (http://hpdz.net) and the claims there about the "four kisses" animation ( WNMHGB4_cin.avi ) that it was a never before seen area.

The extreme height of the image arose from a functional requirement in finding the image. The software I use has a 'reposition' button which you can use to move one point in the image to become the new center point of the image. So I could basically move jump 40000 pixels at a time to try and find the end of the spike.

Looks like a stretched out DNA string or something  ;)

How did you make it ?

Ah you replied as I edited my previous post. I'm planning on going further along the spike until and stopping at some point to zoom in, or atleast until my patience wears thin.

Definitely a bit on the tall side.   :D
Can't wait to see the other three directions of the compass.   ;)
