...did a quick & dirty panorama from "just inside" the minibulb with subblues pixelbender-script.
It is very "dark" inside, and I am not sure if what I see is the "DE-Mandeliers" David is talking about in the second reply in this thread:

I meant "inside" as in the true inside of the fractal, i.e. where the formula converges, as viewed from the inside rather than "outside-in" renders with the viewpoint on the inside. Inside the "outside" DE doesn't work properly but if hitting maximum iterations is ignored the DE can find "solid" (very slowly) in some cases - for instance at most locations z^p+c is convergent for negative p so the "outside" DE is not really valid but if hitting maximum iterations is not treated as solid then the DE algorithm (used incorrectly to step through these "inside" areas) produces these:

OK, I did get that I am only "inside" the minibulb, but your explanation makes it clearer to me, so the things I see here is in fact the real inside of a minibulb!
