Its interesting that the wildstyle has such a variety in the results, even in the top 3.

What exactly do you find interesting about it? One shows quantity, the other shows quality. Why are you surprised they diverge so much?

You are right, I haven't thought about it that way. But wouldn't the other sections have had it as well then? Maybe a higher number of entries will make that diversion more obvious.

Now voting has finished it would be nice to be able to see ratings in gallery again.  Hope it's not too difficult to switch back on.

Thanks.

hey stardust, congrats from me as well,we had many times winners of different sections or winners of different rating systems, you do amazing stuff and this is your prize, i wonder why exactly those two pics made it so high, but they surely deserve it ;)

Thanks cKleinuis. I simply found a neat location and expanded upon it. In fact the coordinates for my second entry Magnum Opus Dragon were inside the first image. At 77 million iterations, it took quite some time to locate the target and render it, not to discredit anyone else's efforts.

I almost feel guilty for hogging the spotlight considering both 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the deep zoom category were duplicates. The depth of some of the other entries were truly astonishing. I don't want to think about how long Kalles' e-twenty-something-thousand location must have taken to locate and render....... Also a shoutout for CFJH's 2nd place "Bugs". Every time I see someone else making shapes out of those little Xs, I smile.

One thing about the deep Mandelbrot entry is these locations are pure math objects. The art is all about choosing a path and assigning some pretty colors to the image.

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing the other entries though. There is some incredible talent for show in the film and wild styles categories. Mineralia and The Explorer were both very deserving of awards in the film section, one being "pure" fractal scenes and the other a very well scripted sci-fi short.

Well, the mandelbrot section is the same because they've all been rated exactly 21 times.

Congratulations to all winners and all participants !

I'a m particulary happy about my result in Film secion because i have never win that one, and it's also great  to have Arias wining, because his work is technically incredible.(and i have the luck that Brasnacte do not participate that time ;) ! )

Thanx to all.

Wow, so happy to be among this years winners! Congratulations to everyone! So hard to get a 'plain, raw' fractal with no tricks in the running too. Thanks to everyone that voted!

First my congrats to pulsar, arias, Hal, Johan, Matthew, stardust4ever and CFJH. Well deserved wins! Especially I am pleased for Hal's first place. He has been one of the best AND most unique artists for years, so this victory is more than deserved.

One shows quantity, the other shows quality.

You still got that one dimensional pov? It is an open secret, that on platforms that contain dislikes - like youtube - the percentage of dislikes increases with the number of "votes". For sure the tendency you mentioned should not be dismissed, but in best case, it is half of the truth.
So the divergence we see in still frame and weaker in film section is nothing, but natural!

Friendly bump, my contest winning entrants are up on deviantart.com now! O0

http://stardust4ever.deviantart.com/art/Magnum-Opus-Dragon-5k-Panorama-630162355

The panorama version Magnum Opus Dragon had to be rerendered for the ultra wide aspect of the Coffee Mug prize, and I liked it enough to render it a second time as "5k" panoramic version (5120x2160). Sorry for the late reply but I tend to procrastinate, LOL... :clown:

I am currently working on a zoom movie in Kalles Fraktaller that passes through the original Dance of the Fire Dragon location to the minibrot at ~e257, but it's slow go. Last I checked, over 55 hours into the final frame at 4k resolution with 337,500,000 iteration limit! No telling when the zoom video will be done but I hope it picks up speed or it might take months to complete. Good thing I have a UPS! Overclocked Bulldozer CPU is running stable but a bit warm, 71 C, pulling about 325 watts at the outlet in the summer heat... :fiery:

Thanks again to everyone who competed; you guys are all great!  :thanks2:
