Title: Suggest video codec? Post by: makc on January 11, 2010, 04:40:07 PM Decided to post here, since this forum is devoted to movies specifically. Few days ago I made this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyPZ2UVM0pg&fmt=22 That video made me thinking about proper compression choise. Leaving aside obvious problem with double details for anaglyph, you can see that sharp lines are not exactly sharp even in HD. I understand that I can't affect youtube compression, but even my original 151 MB 1280x960 video I have them blurred. I vaguely remember similar discussion somewhere about best codec for anime, but I don't remember ultimate suggestion. So, if any of you have some experience in this, please post. Post by: Saquedon on February 08, 2010, 02:39:09 AM The best video quality comes from mp4 files with H264 (AVC) compressed videos (isma) with AAC but for online streaming the videos tend to be transcoded and the widely used flash player (as on Youtube) is still not very good with animated HD material. Perhaps if the flash player ever becomes good we'll get to see smooth playback. But you just can't control the final streamed output of the videos you upload. Vimeo tends to have the best playback quality, but Youtube is not that bad. You did seem to have made a rather large error in the correct video size. Standard sizes are: 640x480x30fps (or 24, 25 sometimes 50 or 60 fps) 4:3 normal screen, bitrate around 2-4 Mbit 640x360x30fps (or 24, 25 sometimes 50 or 60 fps) 16:9 widescreen, bitrate around 2-4 Mbit 1280x720x24fps 16:9 widescreen (recommended for HD), bitrate around 3-6 Mbit 1920x1080x24fps 16:9 widescreen (Youtube upload only, playback quality doesn't seem to be 1080p yet), bitrate around 9-14 Mbit But do use the correct video encoding profiles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels). For free encoding you can use Super (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) or Avidemux (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/). |
