Title: Video: Shapestacking explained - Causality in the Mandelbrot-Set
Post by: Chillheimer on February 04, 2016, 03:34:00 PM
As I realized that only few really understand what "shapestacking" is and it is very hard to explain with a few words or pictures, I decided to make a short video that explains this essential characteristic of the Mandelbrot-Set (and other fractals)

This shapestacking also happens all around us, wherever we find fractals in nature.
It is most obvious in the geologic sediments, like the Grand Canyon:

But we can also see it when we look up into the night sky – we take a peek into a past long gone.
The further away a star is, the older it’s light is.

The whole history of life, the complete evolution is hidden in our DNA.
All genes of all our direct ancestors can be traced back to the first cell.

I find this very significant and hope that fundamental connection between fractals and our cosmos will be proved by further research.

Cool, thanks!  I'm going to check those out, so maybe I can wrap my head around the concept.  Still fuzzy... :D

Nice, it's a very simple and easy to understand explanation.
