Title: Hi There
Post by: monoscapes on December 31, 2015, 04:22:46 PM
Hello, I came across an example of Mandelbulber accidentally on youtube videos.

I have not used fractal software before but as it was free I downloaded it too find out what it could do and see if I could find a use for it. Any help or advice would be more than welcome.

I went straight in and downloaded Mandelbulber2 but most of the guides I could find are based on previous versions. The panels are laid out differently so it is taking some time to try and fathom out how to use it effectively.

The application comes with a handful of background images, my main question is can I generate a fractal background and then save/use that as the basis for a new fractal on top?

It would not need to be completely in focus but I would prefer as much detail/definition as possible. I graduated in Fine Art and I was wondering if I could use some of my own abstract art as backgrounds?

I run a Visual Arts online magazine https://showandtellmagazine.wordpress.com (https://showandtellmagazine.wordpress.com)

Thanks, Joe.

Hey monoscapes,

Welcome... I'm new to Mandelbulber also so I will have to monitor your responses!

Hello :)

You can create  first fractal (background) save image as .png , then second image (forefront) save as PNG with alpha channel and use some photo editing software to overlay the two images.

More tricky method, using boolean unite you can create up to four fractals then  scale, rotate and offset them inside the same 3D environment, (ie the  shadow from one fractal can fall on the other three fractals.
