Title: Not quite a newbie but... Post by: russ on August 09, 2015, 10:43:28 AM Hi folks,
I'm Russ, a 30 something Scottish bloke currently based between London and Yunnan, China. Currently back at school studying Creative Computing by distance learning/ self study. I've been fascinated by fractal art since I was a kid, but only since learning Processing in my course have I been able to have a crack at making my own. Spent the last little while making a toy fractal generator on Processing, just mandels, julias and tetration with sinusoidal smooth colouring so far but it works nicely and is easy to use. The real revelation for me was this year's course in shaders and GPU programming, my tetration fractal is now measured in frames per second rather than frames per minute ;D Just recently discovered the wonderful world of 3D fractals, distance estimators, ray marching and all that good stuff. Not quite ready to make my own yet but have been devouring iq, syntopia, and subblue's blogs, along with this site, trying to fill my head with the necessary formulas. Just now I'm staring down the barrel of choosing a research topic for my final year dissertation (no easy task without the aid of a tutor), and may well end up doing something on 3D/ 4D fractals. Whether I do choose a fractal related topic or not, I definitely intend to work on many personal projects, and hopefully eventually contribute some ideas to the field. Love the work shown on these boards, and excited to be part of the community :) Title: Re: Not quite a newbie but... Post by: Sockratease on August 09, 2015, 01:31:18 PM Hello and welcome to the forums O0 Feel free to post any of your works in our gallery so we can see your artistic vision. As for the coding and formulas and stuff - you have come to the right place! My programming days are so far behind me that I missed the whole introduction of Object Oriented Programming, so I stick to the artsy side and the tech end of forum operations. But there are many programmers here whose skills are boggle the mind :gum: I'm certain you can find the help you seek with almost any aspect of coding fractals right here on FractalForums! Feel free to ask anything you are interested in on our Programming Boards (http://"http://www.fractalforums.com/programming/"). Good luck with the Thesis and I'll see you around the forums. |
