User names are readily identifiable and may skew the voting either positively or negatively, depending on how the voters feel about the artist. Far better if the images and films are judged according to their artistic merit and the artists' skills with the software.

My only thought on this idea, apart from agreeing it is a great concept, is to be sure to find a way to anonymize comments too. If somebody posts a comment saying "Nice Image!" and then the "anonymous" member replies with "Thanks!" - if their names show we have just identified that image's creator. Maybe disable comments if making them anonymous is too difficult? Not sure quite how to go about that on this forum (pretty sure of what to do on vBulletin, but smf gets tricky on things like that).
