Title: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: cKleinhuis on June 01, 2015, 10:33:44 AM The submission period for this years competition has ended. A new Participation record with 232 entries submitted, from a total of 82 different people.
Thank you for your participation. Now it comes down to find what is the coolest thing in gallery. The voting system for this years compo undergoes a slight change: to make voting as fair as possible and encourage as much people to participate in the voting. New Competition Voting Rules - Each Compo Category now features 2 winners: - one with the most total ratings - one with the best average rating (average ratings need to have at least 10 votes to be counted) - Only users that have registered before 1st of June 2015 are allowed to participate in the voting so, this way should be enough motivation to vote on as many entries as possible Start here: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=108 and because i had such a good laugh when watching the lego movie, and i am celebrating the contest so much, let me motivate you by the "everything is AWESOME!" video from the lego movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StTqXEQ2l-Y use this link for endless loop :D rofl :D http://www.infinitelooper.com/?v=StTqXEQ2l-Y&p=n Title: Re: Compo 2015 - Announcement of voting period - important changes Post by: Lelle on June 01, 2015, 06:52:28 PM Can you vote on anyone except your own?
Title: Re: Compo 2015 - Announcement of voting period - important changes Post by: cKleinhuis on June 01, 2015, 07:25:11 PM exactly, anyone registered before 1st of june is called to participate!
Title: Re: Compo 2015 - Announcement of voting period - important changes Post by: Fitz on June 02, 2015, 04:25:39 AM Finished voting on both still frame categories, I'll finish voting on the films a bit later. Not sure if it would have worked, but when I came to my own submission in the slideshow the page was still showing stars like I had the option to vote on it. I'm not about to give myself a five star vote (or any vote) so I didn't try it in case it actually went through, was just wondering if people being able to vote on their own submissions was intended or not.
e: Tested it and it wouldn't let me vote on my own submission, so that seems to be working. vvvvv Title: Re: Compo 2015 - Announcement of voting period - important changes Post by: cKleinhuis on June 02, 2015, 10:38:23 AM thank you for the information and the action you did ;)
the behaviour is standard gallery behaviour and you would get a message from the server when you try to vote for your own stuff, plase test it and let my know if that is still valid after my mod to the gallery ;) Title: Re: Compo 2015 - Announcement of voting period - important changes Post by: gforce45 on June 02, 2015, 01:42:14 PM wow there's so many amazing entries to the contest this year, I am having a hell of a time voting :)
Title: Re: Compo 2015 - Announcement of voting period - important changes Post by: cKleinhuis on June 02, 2015, 09:29:42 PM to remember you all this can be brought up every day now ;) feel free to post here just for that reason every day! (ONCE!)
Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: Caleidoscope on June 03, 2015, 10:06:05 AM I really have to start voting now, but man, this is goïng to be so incredible difficult. They are so good !!!
All of you, good luck, wisdom and vision ;) So no beer, untill it is done!  :) Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: pjt33 on June 03, 2015, 08:25:04 PM From the announcement thread:
It is desirable to publish "new" stuff in the contest, do not bore us with already known stuff. Anything already competing in another contest, or somehow already known to a wider public is unwanted. The administration team for the contest is not strictly excluding anything from the contest so it is up to you to either bore us to death or come up with inspiring new work. It would be to hard to verify every entry by hand, so nothing will be disqualified, but keep in mind that something already known wont get any votes ... I tries to make it a requirement that every entrant rate every entry or be disqualified - but that was deemed too much work to check up on. So for the handful of submissions which are well-known, which is most appropriate: to not vote at all, or to vote 1 star? Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: Sockratease on June 03, 2015, 10:18:21 PM So for the handful of submissions which are well-known, which is most appropriate: to not vote at all, or to vote 1 star? The only appropriate thing is to rate every entry honestly. Anything else is just a misguided attempt to twist or exploit the system! Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: Caleidoscope on June 04, 2015, 09:55:58 AM I agree with Socratease.
And one note to consider: What is well known to some does not mean it is well known to all. FractalForums wants 'everyone' to join the contest no matter what level they are and that means also new members and persons that are beginners in this fractal world. They might not have a clue that his entrance is boring to some, maybe it is indeed the best he ever made. Off course they don't stand a chance but that is not the only thing that counts. It is supposedly also a fun thing to do for all members. Just ignore it if you don't like it. I give one star just for the effort for I'm glad they participate. It will be a very small contest if only the best members post their excellent work. In that case there will be no need for the rest to join the competiton anymore. I am glad with every entry. Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: Caleidoscope on June 04, 2015, 11:15:26 AM Question; What to do with some pictures in the Black&White section that contains some color?
Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: Sockratease on June 04, 2015, 11:28:46 AM Question; What to do with some pictures in the Black&White section that contains some color? Good question! I have been too busy with taking care of others that I haven't had time to go through all the entries and vote yet, so missed any of the sorts of images you mention. Please link to them here, and we can move them to "Wild Style" and just hope that the artists don't end up exceeding the 3 image maximum (if they do so, we can - unfortunately - disqualify the entries) (in all the years of doing this we have never had to disqualify anybody, but since our Gallery Moderator somehow missed it when it was posted there may be no choice) (and yes, we did have to move a few images during the entry period, so some were caught and acted on it time, it's sad that some were missed :sad1: ). Meanwhile, please vote on them as if they were rule-abiding since they willl be moved or disqualified once spotted by staff! Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: Caleidoscope on June 04, 2015, 12:26:45 PM ok, first I found it difficult for it feels a bit like betrayel :-X but after consideration it is better this way for now the participant still got a chance to score high maybe even win the competition and 'they' will find out anyway :tease:
Maybe it is an option for those who exceed their 3 entrys to let them choose wich one they will keep in the race? Is that possible for it feels so bad :( Well anyway these are the most obvious and it is really a big shame, I'm really very sorry and hope you will still be part of the competition. A very beautiful woman, but too much blue and a bit of green: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17789 Light bleu in this great coral like fractal. http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17677 Another great fractal, but there is blue on the ball. http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17660 Certainley one of my favourites but to much 'beige': http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17594 Well this is it in a flash view. Maybe others think there are more pictures that doesn't fit the strickt b&w but I leave that up to someone else now, for I got to run. I do hope you will all continue the game. Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: LhoghoNurbs on June 04, 2015, 07:57:58 PM Hi everyone -
I'm just reporting that I finished voting. I voted on every entry in all categories. It took me a lot of time, but it enjoyed every second of it. Really. Now I'm impatient to see whether any of my 5-stars nominees will make it up to the winning position. - LhoghoNurbs Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! Post by: pulsar69 on June 04, 2015, 08:40:27 PM About the "color problem"...
Ok i have allready Three pictures on other section, so ... I can clearly see some blue and green on the first one. http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17789 ...but i do not see really colors on others one..perhaps it depends of screen calibration. And if you open, mainly MB3d pictures Inside an editing software, there is some others picture which are not perfect B/W... I give some explanations on my own picture, why some Mandelbulb3d still have some few colors Inside...http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17660 cheers Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=17483 It's no big problem because I didn't make it specifically for the competiton and it doesn't have potential to win. With all my life troubles lately, I may not have time to even finish the first category :sad1: When exactly does voting close, by the forum time? I somehow thought I still had over 24 hours, but it seems I may only have 3 hours  Well... I'll do my best, and I apologize to anybody who's images I don't have time to rate before the deadline. Title: Re: Compo 2015 - VOTE NOW! I'll do my best, and I apologize to anybody who's images I don't have time to rate before the deadline. Maybe other people think about this differently, but I feel like fractal art is the sort of thing that makes a relatively immediate impression on whomever is viewing it. I got all my votes for the still images done in probably an hour, since a lot of it can be looked at and produce an immediate negative reaction (noisy, rendering errors, heavy aliasing, hideous colors, etc.), with entries that are well made having a positive reaction about as quick. There's usually not much to really analyze since whatever you're looking at is ultimately just going to be a graph for the most part and you don't have to worry about artistic symbolism or anything like that. Agreed, but I have been in a very dark place personally and everything in life is being effected. It's one of those "helpless to do anything about it" issues and it is monopolizing my time and changing the way I see everything in the universe. I tried, but haven't even finished Wild Style and am done for the night. Will try in the morning and if it is still voting time, I will do as much more as I can. This is the first year I didn't vote on every entry. Hopefully in the morning I can finish up! |
