Title: fractal note maping
Post by: algorytm on December 10, 2009, 11:06:15 AM
I am creating fractal midi sequencer and the problem is how do map notes to fractal data(1/f noise)
I use Mandelbrot set.

i have x, y (point) values, and iteration count for this point  witch is the color of pixel in gingerbread fractal picture.

i have tried mapping y as note pitch  on iteration count(note pitch = y when iteration is 100) . it works kind of nice but has a lack of variation.

Has some one better solutions?

hmmm... I wonder wether it would be possible to do a complete fourier-transform on the Mandelbrot-set... - maybe even the whole 4D-set, that is, including the julias
and then use two more or less aribitary points for "4D" sound (which of course is rather speculative as your ears couldn't tell anything from 4D-input...)

Im not sure where this thread is supposed to go, but i feel like this thread is more programming-related, than about discussing the fractal forums...so, im locking this thread.
