perhaps i upload the tuts to youtube PC is 2 or 3 years old: i7-3770k 3,5 GHz, 16 GB Ram There`s an - at that time - fast Graphic-Card (GTX 690), but "only" the 3D navi use it. think this is good, but not highend hardware and so i have to wait some hours for some of the example-images -> overnight rendering i remember the 7.500 x 7.500 needs 3-4 hours: http://matze2001.deviantart.com/art/amazing-head-Mandelbulb3D-with-parameters-530699957 and the transparent clock - posts before - i would never render at such a big size. the heightmap (head) AND the fractal (green things ;) are combinated with the "DE comb" option in Formula Window If u have DEcombinate activated to see bottom left. u can choose values and what´s needed ist "Max." and then - so i understand/saw - only areas are visible, where both objects generates geometry. the "problem"/task is, to find a good place where heightmap and fractal together are cool ;) and i often try to move/scale the heightmap - searching in 3d navi. You have good ideas, but probably need more practice to convert them to good looking images. Some things to improve: Image resolution and antialiasing You can almost count the pixel of the laser beam in that last image. You probably used a too low resolution to work with. If the end result is going to be an image with for example 1920 x 1080 pixels, then you need to work with about 3 to 4 times more pixels. The last step in the image editing process will be to scale back the work-image ( say 7680 x 4320 pixels) to the finished-image ( 1920 x 1080 ). Layers, colors and blending in The laser and the stars (or what are those small spots and stipes anyway?) really don't blend in. It's too obvious that they are a separate layer. This is due to multiple reasons, for one the resolution. But also the use of color. The contrast between the laser and the background image is too much. It would be more realistic if for example the green laser light also lights a part of the spaceship. Then I do some post-processing with Gimp, which is relative fast compared to the render time. I don't have a NASA machine and use resolutions up to 12800 x 7200 px.
Not NASA, but the movie industry is using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8K_resolution which is 7680×4320. But they use about 23 images each second .... The most high resolution images from the Hubble you can download from NASA are 29566 X 14321 pixels, only about twice as big as standard renders of Mandelbulber v2.
