Title: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on January 26, 2015, 12:58:10 PM Hi all
I have released an early beta version of my fractal explorer program "Fractalscope" for people to try out. There are still a number of bugs that need to be squashed before the first non-beta release. There is a 64-bit version for Windows available for download at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fractalscope/ (http://sourceforge.net/projects/fractalscope/) . There are quite a few dependencies because of it being a dynamically linked Qt program, hence the relatively bloated size of the download (~17Mb). I hope that I have managed to include them all so that the program runs! I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and constructive criticism. Best wishes, zenzero-2001 Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: 3dickulus on January 26, 2015, 03:19:04 PM does not run under wine on linux... :sad1:

It should work now. I forgot to include the msvc dlls. Annoyingly I had included them in an earlier available download, but somehow accidentally deleted them in the most recent download. :-( Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: DarkBeam on January 27, 2015, 12:21:21 AM Where are the pretty pics?
Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: 3dickulus on January 27, 2015, 12:59:11 AM yep, works with wine/linux now
very smooth, you're off to a great start! Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on January 27, 2015, 06:39:54 PM DarkBeam - You are supposed to make your own pretty pictures with the program :D
3dickulus - Glad you like it :-) I actually develop in Linux, I will upload a Linux version soon. Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: DarkBeam on January 27, 2015, 07:09:06 PM Lol but every program has some preview pics to tempt undecided wannabe-users ;)

Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on January 27, 2015, 08:03:45 PM Ah success... The above image has been resized in the GIMP. It is a Julia Phoenix fractal:

Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on January 28, 2015, 04:57:41 PM I have uploaded a 64-bit Linux build (static linkage), I hope it runs okay.
Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: PieMan597 on January 28, 2015, 09:26:21 PM I can say that the Linux version works just fine on my computer that has 64-bit Linux Mint 17.1 on it.
Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on January 29, 2015, 12:39:28 PM Thanks Pieman597. It is a static build so should work on distros without Qt installed. I am also running 64-bit Linux Mint but version 17 KDE edition. ;D
Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on April 02, 2015, 10:48:35 PM Hi Everybody
I've just made available a bug fix release of Fractalscope, version 0.1.2 Beta. This version should (hopefully!) fix the thread synchronization issue and a few other bugs. Both the Windows and Linux versions are compiled dynamically (previously, the Linux version was a static build). If there are any problems with running the Linux version on distros without Qt5 installed, I would very much appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks! :-) I'm not planning to work on Fractalscope for some significant time. I have some other (non-programming) projects I wish to pursue. Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: SCORPION on April 03, 2015, 05:26:21 AM Hi, zenzero-2001!
Your program works on my Windows 7x64. But I see a large size Fractalscope and only one formula? How can I save a picture of Julia? Title: Re: Early Beta Release of Fractalscope Post by: zenzero-2001 on April 03, 2015, 09:54:53 AM If you click "New", that will give you access to a few more fractal types (the dialog includes a checkbox to create a Julia variant).
A Julia fractal can also be created by holding down ctrl or shift and clicking the right mouse button at a location on the fractal, the coordinates of the clicked location become the seed of the Julia fractal. It has independent color channels for the gradient editor. This means that saved gradients and fractals are incompatible between the beta releases and the non-beta releases. I hope people enjoy using Fractalscope. Thank you. |
