Title: dynamics of segregation - a dynamical demonstration Post by: kram1032 on December 12, 2014, 01:34:21 AM http://ncase.me/polygons/ - very simple, interesting and striking cellular automaton model for segregation (with full, simple explanation)
make sure to also check out the additional given links. One of them, for instance is a slightly expanded model (just without any explanation) http://ncase.me/polygons-pentagons/play/automatic/automatic_sandbox_frame.html Title: Re: dynamics of segregation - a dynamical demonstration Post by: youhn on December 12, 2014, 07:08:56 PM Thanks, nice links. I had some fun reading the explanation, sliding the bars and watching the shape society! :rotating:
Title: Re: dynamics of segregation - a dynamical demonstration Post by: Chillheimer on December 12, 2014, 09:48:39 PM beautiful!
always impressive to see the simple principles that rule our lives explained in a simple way. thx for sharing! Title: Re: dynamics of segregation - a dynamical demonstration Post by: kram1032 on December 14, 2014, 07:38:55 PM I always like simple ideas describing complex problems. If they fit well enough, they actually make it possible to figure out solutions by just messing with the conditions a bit. Like in this case the idea to make shapes directly anti-shapist, actively longing for diversity - changing that to even just 99% actually is enough to significantly drop segregation. (the percentage resolution isn't particularly meaningful in this case though - really you should imagine those values to go from 0-8, 99% meaning you want at least 7 out of 8 neighbours to not be like you - the same value is assigned to anything up to as low as 87,5%. Still a really nice presentation) |
