Title: Pieces of black in hi-res zoom movie
Post by: youhn on November 10, 2014, 11:02:52 PM
See the following movie (use this link, since it's hidden on youtube) :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYKscewa6ps

Rendered it some 1 or 2 weeks ago. Only now I noticed the flickering black parts, as if sometimes a frame goes missing (memory or storage issues? I do remember my harddisk being almost full ... had to create space while the thing was rendering). The CPU was probably also busy as hell (rendering movie, rendering 1 still image, converting video to create space, internet browsing). I wouldn't really call this a bug, but whatever it is ... its bugging me.

Anyone had similar problems with (partly) missing frames filled in with black?

Probably rendered the video with Keyframe Movie Maker version 1.25.

What did you use to shrink down the video?

the encoder part of the MPlayer software from Linux command line:

mencoder -idx -vf scale -zoom -xy 1920 -ovc x264 -x264encopts subq=5:frameref=4:threads=auto:me=umh:partitions=all:bitrate=18000 fi*avi -o output.avi

This has worked before on multiple fractal zoom videos, so I'm almost sure that this conversion is not the cause. I do use Kalles Fraktaler under Wine in Linux, so that also might have something to do with it. I still have the kfb map files, so I'll try to render the video again maybe this night.

I have another one in store from this same fractal set, which has trilobite looking shapes like these :

Still have to render the zoomout sequence for the trilobites though ...

I render things a little bit differently. I render uncompressed AVIs under Linux. I then put them in a gunzip archive, to free up disk space. I extract about 20 2 gig files at a time, then convert them to h.264. With a few seperate videos all rendered, I put them into Kdenlive. With two pass encoding, forced progressive, and a high bitrate, youtube makes the video just fine, but with no black frames.

Can we see some of your published video's ?

Here is a recent one:

Before, for most of my videos, I was using Openshot, but now I am using Kdenlive, so my firs few videos sold be perfect.

Seems to be KFMM that is having problems making the avi files.
Probably loosing bitmaps due to limited resources.

OOOH!

That's my cue to remind you that an image sequence is the Only way to render Any animation!

Be it Fractal, Flash, 3D Models, or even stop motion animation - trying to render a video directly is self defeating and never a good idea.

What is an image?  :alien:

What is an image?  :alien:

I wasn't sure, so I did a web search for the word image.

Got a bunch of totally random pictures. Amusing that in the top ten were a pretty girl, a cat, some hubble deep space pics, and a Mandelbrot Set!

So I guess something incorporating all of those...

Very wise words, I agree with that based on my experience with videos. Sometimes it works, though.

There are exceptions, apparently:

I was referring more to software design than actual rendering as such.

There will always be low overhead and minimally processor intensive movies to make, but who wants to be limited to Only those sorts of animations?
