Title: Hello :-)
Post by: Virtox on November 19, 2009, 09:35:51 AM
Hello everyone,

Another fractal enthousiast here !
Thought I'd introduce myself in the proper topic  :angel1:
I'm a part-time artist and a part-time software developer. with a background in biomedical electrical engineering.
As said before I came here on the tidal wave brought on by slashdot ;-)
I was quite surprised to see the discovery of the 3d mandelbrot "in the news". Congratulations on that !

I have been tinkering with 3d rendering and fractal code since my first Atari ST (my c64 never seemed up to the task :-P), and for the last few years have been at it every once in a while. For more control I generally develop my own c(++) code.

Never had much luck with the "true" 3d mandelbrot (should have found this forum sooner ;-)) I tried several 3d and 4d math functions, which sometimes produce nice results (most of which I have also seen since, here on the forum)
For the 3d versions my aim was not really the high detail but more the overall shape. So I could integrate them in 3d scenes, or even print them in 3d :
offsite : Hypercomplex Julia Cut (http://www.shapeways.com/model/41945/hc_julia_invert.html)
offsite : Hypercomplex Julia Solid (http://www.shapeways.com/model/41578/hypercomplex_julia.html)
I tried several 3d mandelbrot algorithms, but the results have not produced useful non-manifold meshes yet.
For "rendering" I use a marching cubes algorithm to produce polygonal objects.

In the image gallery and here (http://www.fractalforums.com/images-showcase-(rate-my-fractal)/hi-everyone-please-meet-my-doodles/msg8707/#msg8707) I added some other images I created.
These are produced by using the buddhabrot rendering technique for a variety of functions. Which to my surprise produced some very elegant images (and videos), if I may say so myself.

Well, hope to stick around here, find and provide some inspiration and help where needed !

Regards !
