Title: New book "Fractal 3D Magic"
Post by: Duncan C on September 24, 2014, 03:09:59 AM
Sterling Publishing, based in New York City, just released a new book called Fractal 3D Magic. The forward was written by Clifford Pickover, a well known American Science writer.

The book is a collection of red/cyan anaglyph images of different types of 3D fractals.

It's mostly Mandelbrot and Julia set height maps, 3D flames, and what appears to be a fair number of Mandelbulbs, plus a fair number of Menger Sponge type images.

The Mandelbrot and Julia set images are mostly my work using my program, FractalWorks. There are also a number of images by another fractal artist named Fernando Vallejo, who uses FractalWorks along with various post-processing and compositing techniques. I met Fernando on Flikr several years ago. He used to be active in the FractalWorks forum I set up there.

I don't know the other 2 artists in the book, Aleksey Ospenkov and S. Rathinagiri.

Anaglyphs don't really do the images justice, but its a decent way to deliver 3D fractal images to the public.

I'm very happy to see my work in print. I hope the book is successful.

It looks like it's available on Amazon:

The last one sounds as

Right, I also remember this name, this is the guy who suggested to include 3D-stereo-rendering into JWildfire :-) (I think they are not covered in the book yet, as this is was that much in the past)

Hi, I am S. Rathinagiri as mentioned in that book. :)

Thank you Andreas for remembering me. The images published in that book were mostly created using Apophysis and Mandelbulb3D in the past.

Thanks for the information. I really like the way Pickover writes about surtain subjects. The best is that this one is about fractals.

I was actually kind of disappointed in the commentary. Pickover wrote very little. It reads like it was mostly written by the editors at the publisher, who don't have a very deep knowledge of the subject.

I'd call it  a coffee table art book.

Thats true, not as much information as in his other books.
