Title: Religion and Fractals Post by: QuietSamurai98 on August 19, 2014, 12:49:43 AM First off, I am a Catholic. I don't know much about other religions teachings, so I will mainly discuss Catholic beliefs.
Secondly, please be civil. I am not interested in debating the existence of a higher power. I don't want this to become a flame war, so please, be open minded. I was thinking about the Holy Trinity, which can be explained by this image (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b3/Shield-Trinity-Scutum-Fidei-English.svg/220px-Shield-Trinity-Scutum-Fidei-English.svg.png) So i was thinking about the flaws in this system. God [G] is simultaneously Father [F], Son This could be explained with a sierpinski triangle: (http://i.imgur.com/z1jnRT3.png) So, is this an accurate depiction of the trinity, or am I just nuts? Anyone who wants to contribute, please! Title: Re: Religion and Fractals Post by: jehovajah on December 17, 2014, 07:23:53 PM As soon as I learned of it I thought of your thread! Hegel wrote his phenomenology of Geist in this triadic structure. I am quite sure that his mystical and religious mind felt this was an important revelation about the structure in the universe. He used it everyway he could think of, as a direct reference to the christian mystery, as a mystical structure, as a categorical division , as a metaphor etc. In particular it was Marx who characterised It as thesis(theos) antithesis(uios) synthesis(pneuma) , a dialectic progressive revelation . It was because of that characterisation that it became seen as a tool for progressing the development of absolute reason or Geist. But in fact it is not a tool but a observation of a pattern that Hegel saw everywhere he looked. It was a symbol of the spirit at work, not man manipulating history! |
