Title: Newbie from Tucson Az Post by: Haversine on July 21, 2014, 08:05:11 PM Hi all, I just found this forum via youtube and had to join. I have been making 2D Julia set fractal animations and posted a few on youtube. Then I looked at some of the 3D fractal animations on youtube OMG !. I now want to learn about 3D fractals.
Thanks Russ Title: Re: Newbie from Tucson Az Post by: Sockratease on July 22, 2014, 02:07:54 AM Hello and welcome to the forums O0
Have you found a 3D Fractal program you're comfortable with yet? I'm sure you'll have fun with whichever one you choose :D Title: Re: Newbie from Tucson Az Post by: Haversine on July 22, 2014, 04:24:12 PM Thanks, I had have not tried any 3D stuff. I would like to learn more of the theory about them first. I wrote my own 2D fractal generator in compiler Power Basic which generates the bitmap image frame files. I'm using EasyBMPtoAVI to make an uncompressed AVI file from the bitmap files. I then convert the large AVI file to an mp4 file. I'm probably doing this the hard way!

Nowhere near enough to aid in writing a program ::) There's a great programming section here, and even the thread where the Mandelbulb was originally discovered! So I'm sure you can find the sort of information you seek O0 Title: Re: Newbie from Tucson Az Post by: mclarekin on July 22, 2014, 10:14:55 PM Welcome Haversine, I do not know EasyBMPtoAVI, I use VirtualDub free software. Your workflow is good, you are not doing it the hard way IMHO. :)
Title: Re: Newbie from Tucson Az Post by: Haversine on July 22, 2014, 11:23:04 PM Hi mclarekin, EasyBMPtoAVI is an old (2006) command line program where you have to give the start frame number, end frame number, frames per second, ... etc. It has a two GB size limit on the output avi file but it was free. I will look into VirtualDup. Thanks Russ |
