This is a 3D Mandelbrot set image, converted to a kaleidoscope in Photoshop. The original 3D fractal was created with FractalWorks (http://web.mac.com/dchampney/Site/FractalWorks.html), a free, high performance fractal renderer for Macintosh computers.
