Title: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Pishtaco on May 27, 2014, 10:58:17 PM Doodal is a paint programme which can do continuous copying and pasting of one part of a picture into another part. It lets you effortlessly build IFS fractals and dive into recursive clouds of your own doodles.
It's designed to be fun to use and runs in a browser (in flash). It's hosted here: dood.al (http://dood.al) Here's a video showing it in action: youtube (http://youtu.be/THSSOJ2pksI) I originally released it a year ago; this is version 1.2. Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: ellarien on June 01, 2014, 01:52:41 AM Fun! I like the random file names, too. :)
Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Pishtaco on June 01, 2014, 10:04:32 AM Thanks!
I wanted the default file name to be different from anything already in the directory, but couldn't find a nice way in flash to check the contents of the directory. So I went for picking a name at random. Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Chillheimer on June 01, 2014, 01:10:10 PM very cool!
thx for sharing! :) Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: kram1032 on June 01, 2014, 01:17:22 PM Epic stuff :D
Do you think you could do something like a plugin of sorts for MyPaint or Krita doing this? MyPaint is great for its infinite canvas. I'm not sure if it actually supports plugins though. And Krita has very advanced brush systems which, I'd imagine, would interact nicely with this. (http://i.imgur.com/wn5Z2Sd.jpg) These are still kind of classic, except for the one on the top left. Always amazing what things we can make using just very simple programs. I would love to use this on a big touchscreen! Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Pishtaco on June 01, 2014, 10:52:17 PM A few more creations:

Django Reinhardt – Minor Swing (Modern remake) Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Chillheimer on July 23, 2014, 09:32:45 AM congratulations on finding the music! ;)
thanks for bringing this thread back up, I had forgotten and now again realized how cool this tool is! kudos to the programmer for creating and sharing!! I just tried to make the fern like in the video. At 0:17sec he mirrors the one frame -how do you do this?! Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: simon.snake on July 23, 2014, 10:34:36 AM Drag the bounding box around the frame to the other direction (if that makes sense).
Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Pishtaco on July 23, 2014, 06:33:35 PM To flip a frame around, shift+click on one of the edges.
The music is one of the free soundtracks that youtube lets you choose from. (Choosing music for one of these things is pretty annoying - I would like to use a public domain recording, of which there are several good ones around, but at least one publisher has usually already downloaded it, slapped their label on it and sold it somewhere, and will claim copyright against it.) Title: Re: Doodal - doodling with portals Post by: Chillheimer on August 05, 2014, 08:50:40 PM ah, thank you, works fine! if you should ever be in search for (royalty free) background music, feel free to contact me, I run www.evermusic.de and would be happy to share with those who share as generously as you did with dood.al :) |
