Title: Hello! Post by: the5thfool on May 24, 2014, 04:58:07 PM My name is Evan, or the5thfool, and I've had a fondness for fractals for a score of years now, when I read Ghost of the Grand Banks as a teenager. I later found Fractint in some shareware catalog, purchased it for a dollar or two (mostly for the floppy and shipping, I guess?) and played around with it on my grandparents' 386. Fractals are most of the reason I got into computers in the first place.
Now, I play with fractal animations, zooms and manipulations. I know a little about a lot and not much about anything, that is, I'm a generalist in nature. I've dabbled in code and clouds, but am still mostly content poking around in Ultra Fractal most days. If you want to check out my stuff, links should be in the sig. Critique is always welcome. I look forward to posting in the future and thank you all for your contributions! Title: Re: Hello! Post by: cKleinhuis on May 27, 2014, 12:56:24 PM my fractal attention was caught with a written AmigaBasic found in a book, early in the 90s, since then i cant let go ;)
Title: Re: Hello! Post by: pulsar69 on May 27, 2014, 02:07:03 PM Same starting point for me... Floppy on a freeware/shareware catalog..A 386 computer..and fractint and Povray !
That was great :) Title: Re: Hello! Post by: the5thfool on June 02, 2014, 10:36:15 PM Same starting point for me... Floppy on a freeware/shareware catalog..A 386 computer..and fractint and Povray ! That was great :) Povray, oh god, I can still see the checkerboard. XD It's strange to think back that my current "phone" is better than any computer I would have seen for another decade after the 386, and that now, by comparison, I buy mini supercomputer blades for my desktop to play games and render fractals. *happy sigh* I could never go back. I really am jealous of Amiga users: better architecture, better hackers, better demos. I played with Lightwave 3D on a Video Toaster in '96 and was just amazed. Also, awesome 2D animation tools. Crazy good computers, really bad marketing/sales. Title: Re: Hello!
