Title: Mandelbulb Source Code?
Post by: neosettler on May 22, 2014, 01:36:27 AM
Hello fractal lovers,

Hi, it says on the site description here:

http://mandelbulb.com/2014/mandelbulb-3d-mb3d-fractal-rendering-software/

...that the Mandelbulb 3D is a free, open-source software application. I looked around but I didn’t find any source code in the windows zip file. Is there any documentation on how to build the app on windows, if even possible?

Thank you David,

cKleinhuis is saying that it is close source but the actual site is saying it is open source... I'm getting mixed information but
I'm guessing that if it were open source I would have found it already.

If no source code available, is there any documentation explaining how it works conceptually?

Actually, this is the official site for Mandelbulb3D!  I have no idea who runs the site you linked to, but they are mistaken.

Jesse  (a member here)  is the creator of MB3D and has never made the source code available  {EDIT - There is nothing about that site which would need any authorization though ; no copyrighted stuff is hosted there}.

He may well have authorized that site, I don't know.  But if you follow the download links on that site, they lead here.

I'm sorry that site has misleading information on it, but it is definitely Mandelbulber that is Open Source, not Mandelbulb3D  (people often confuse the names of the two programs, or worse yet just say "Mandelbulb" so nobody knows which program they mean!).

Not sure what you mean by "how it works conceptually" - but there is a read me file that explains it's use.

It's formulas are written in assembly I think, but the inner workings are not public.
