I am looking for a 3d and/or 2d fractal software with the ability to make fractals with formulas, and for mac. thanks

Have you tried Terry Gintz's stuff?

has a nice list.

His are among the best for mac that handle custom formulas.

hmm yes i will consider buying one of those thanks, but do you know any free programs?

so, please take a look at "fragmentarium"? with that you got everything out of the box (hmm, mac support i dont know)<- expect of this, you get a very nice collection of example scripts, and one special  axolotl script can be downloaded to it as well. it is a formula parser in its - nowadays - most simpistic form, by using the shader compilers that come with your gfx card
