Title: Problems with field-depth and unwanted colour-cycling (with video)
Post by: Chillheimer on January 27, 2014, 11:16:27 AM
Hi everybody!

So I'm giving mandelbulb3d a try after some offtime.
I spend quite some time preparing this short video and had it rendering over the weekend just to find major problems that I didn't see in the small preview-test:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wneYjqfHcmA

-I didn't use colour cycling or something like that(is it even an option anywhere?), but the colours cycle. why could that be?
-I set the far plane in the 3d-navi quite high (1000) to get all that unsharp very distant background, but when moving stuff keeps disappearing, especially in the very end. What can I do to keep everything there?
-The depth of field - effect doesn't really work out the way I intended - any hints how one can use it so it doesn't annoy the viewer like in my test here?

I'd be grateful if someone with more experience could give me some tips on this..
Attached is the Ani-Safe-File, if it helps..

Regards,
Chilli

- Color cycling can occur for many reasons when you have various parameters changing between 2 keyframes, for example (not sure, to check) DE stop, Raystep multiplier, or potentially even if parameters do not move (for example, I think that if "Col Var on Z" is different from 0, then it makes color cycle when you move.)

- Far plane issues : increase the value of Zend (in the main window) for the keyframes around the problem.

- DoF : this one is quite simple to use and makes no surprises. Try to pick the Z1 and Z2 values manually for each keyframe.

Hope this helps

hey bib!
thank you for your answers..
to be honest I haven't touched that sequence anymore. As audioguy producing with computer I'm used to a maximum of minutes rendering time.
3 days to find a complete failure. that sucks ;)

I didn't change anything except DoF and the position.. I'll have look at "col var on Z" with my next try.

ahhh! thank you! I only changed this value in the navigator, so it couldnt work!
great to know!

hm, I did just that. but maybe too much and too strong changes between the frames..
oh well, next time..

Hope this helps
It will! Thanks for taking the time to help! :)
