Title: Timeline!
Post by: bfarn on January 10, 2014, 08:28:49 PM
First of all, of course, your software is amazing and deserves all kind of praise.

I'm a motion graphics and VFX animator and would love to use Mandelbulber in commercial production and for fine art, but the animation controls are still too unwieldy / unpredictable.
The most helpful feature you could add would be a true animation timeline!  Being able to scrub back-and-forth in time, seeing the exact location of the camera at a specific moment, making subtle tweaks to timing and flight path - these would all be very simple with an implementation like in the attached image.

Real timeline and keyframe data would also make it possible to integrate Mandelbulber into a larger production pipeline, so artists could do all kinds of integration with live footage or other CG graphics.  Imagine placing a castle or fortress deep inside a Mandelbox.  Or flying starships through the middle, or using it as a landscape in a music video!

I would happily donate to development for this feature, and share Mandelbulber with production studios here in LA.

Thanks again for making this great program!

This is precisely what I'm working on for Chaotica now :) It's an astonishing amount of work, and I'm sure Jesse could do with donations to motivate it!

Your idea for a time-line editor is really great but...
Only donation which can help me is a free time, but you can't give me this. I would like to implement many features and more professional user interface in Mandelbulber, but the problem is that I'm doing this software almost alone. I can't resign from my regular work because I love it, so I have limited time for programming. Developing of this application is only my hobby which probably never will be commercialized. However it is a open source application. If anybody can do such a timeline editor, just tell me.

Yeah, just to say that I attempted to implement something similar in a program I was writing a while back.

The program itself was vastly less complex than Mandelbulber, but I have to admit that I gave up trying to do what I was trying to do that way.

It very quickly became quite daunting.
