Title: Flake - second attempt
Post by: Kalles Fraktaler on January 01, 2014, 02:38:14 PM
Happy new year.
The last mandelbrot zoom movie from me in 2013 is a second attempt of Dinkydau's lovely flake location.

I like this location very much and it is a challenge to render it with perturbation because of all glitches occuring on all the tiny spirals - and also between them!
Glitches with pattern on them are the hardest to solve. Since a minibrot is passed at e20 it is not accesible from either double or long double, but if this minibrot would have been deeper it would probably not caused patterns on the glitches and would have been easier.
My program is it still not able to solve the glitches automatically in the Flake location when the first reference is in the center, and will probably never be. But I only had to add additional references to about 100 of the 550 frames in this movie and I am very pleased with the result. I think it is one of my best so far.

I can't watch this past the seven-minute mark. The Youtube player just halts when it gets to exactly seven minutes, and won't play. It acts paused, but telling it to pause and unpause does nothing. Backing up and letting it go forward again will stop again at the same point. Seeking to just past (or to anywhere past) the seven-minute mark to try to skip over the problem spot also doesn't work -- it will just "snap back" to the exact seven minute mark if you do that.

Why is this? And why do I get the distinct impression that Youtube is going steadily downhill as a video hosting platform? A lot of videos are affected by problems like this one lately, and when I sign in to my own account it keeps bugging me to change my account name when I'm perfectly happy with the one I have...

Leaving the page, returning, starting the video, and then skipping to seven minutes does work. But there's not apparently a way to watch it all the way through in one viewing?

Yes it is sad that youtube is so bad. Many of my movies are compressed to significantly lower quality and show compression distortions. And one of my earlier got corrupted colors some seconds in the middle...
But I did not see any problems with this movie on youtube, except compressed to lower quality.
Vimeo isn't much better though. I will perhaps upload more movies to mega, if anyone is interested?

I would always download original files when available.
