Title: panorama sky + realistic terrain generation
Post by: cKleinhuis on October 22, 2013, 10:04:45 PM
hi all, how do you create background sphere textures for mb3d ?!
i would like to have one to be used as intro for my news show, but it seems harder than i thought

i tried out the panorama camera renderer in mb3d, this seems to be producing perfect textures to be used as backgrounds, but i want a universe style, or some clouds ... :(

I use my 3D program  (Carrara)  - not sure if all 3D software has a spherical camera or not.

Try Blender.  Just set the image as the backdrop in an empty scene, and render with a spherical camera.  That's all Carrara needs anyhow...

If that fails, just  get me as high a resolution image as possible, and I can convert it to a spherical camera image quickly and easily enough.

If you need it seamless, that may get tricky - but should still be possible.

Have a look at this tutorial, perhaps it might help you.  :)

Those look definitely cool but I fear they are copyrighted?

I am seriously thinking about adding more maps to the standard ones to MB3D and some spherical panorama under public domain maybe very helpful. More searching now!

Thinking now; can I add them to a custom MB release + my new formulas? :pray2: :pray2: :pray2:

Yess!!! Please!

Make one scenario at morning, then at evening/sunset, and at night with different settings. I would be greatly happy!

If colours don't look very good I am able to correct them

I finally found a great program that can generate a realistic terrain. It can be then easily made seamless.

Steps;

1. Get GeoControl. http://www.cajomi.de/GeoControl/geocontrol_shop.htm
2. Make your terrain. (click on generate). Try some cool filters (Terrain shape) - can make eroded terrains, glaciers etc. :worm:
3. Export it! :worm: main menu; TERRAIN - TERRAIN EXPORT - HEIGHTFIELD GRAYSCALE
4. Close GC :D
5. Open the file with Photoshop; Mehdi Seamless Border makes it seamless!

Done!
