I guess they could not adequately reproduce the exact details, in particular the graduated coloring of the background. The person in question downloaded the image from my site to take to the tattoo artist.

Then you should either supply a comparison graphic image that matches the tattoo, or find a tattoo that matches the graphic image you show on your web page, because the two are not the same, they are only similar. It is quite obvious to anyone with a decent eyesight.
