After all, their membership entry does not take up that much space in the scheme of things. How many people may just have been absent for either medical and/or other pressing issues?? (I was gone for quite awhile due to my cancer.) How many people were just lurkers, and not posting, but would visit on a somewhat irregular basis?? How do you think they will feel when they try to log back into the forum, and then find they are not there anymore?? Title: Re: auto email notification - user cleanup over! Post by: cKleinhuis on September 02, 2013, 10:54:18 PM there is always a downside, and not every action can have full support or understanding ( i am afraid about offering a new voting mechanism for annual competition later this year ... but back on track ) so... i just can explain what was my initial motivation.... the main reason was that when sending out a newsletter that the hoster company send me an automated email about many many emails that are just non-existant, so, although i am happy with that huge user database it is really a large amount of non-existant email adresses, i then minimized the effect of that action by setting the minimum post count to 1, so, anyone with more than one posting would not have been deleted, i am now happy cleaned out the database, and lurkers do not need to register anyway, all the forums, the gallery and the download section is open for guests and as we already achieved in another thread we are all humans after all, many actions i do are not fully compliant to everyone, but my job is to maintain the whole stuff, so, i accidentally deleted 5 years of logging data, i censored a posting and activated a user cleanup, so, i could have discussed it widely before, but i didnt, i hope not many users are really deleted that did not want to get deleted, and as i said it is now over.... |
