Man, if I had a penny for everytime someone's called a Fractalius-processed photograph a fractal... thom never said it was a fractal! You're the only one who said that. Nor was it stated this is Fractalius or a processed photo. I think when he said "Silk" he meant this toy : http://weavesilk.com/ which creates "flame" like lines based on mouse motions. There's no harm in posting offshoots of fractal art like this. In fact, I like it! Most of my favorite art involving fractals has the fractal playing only a minor supporting role. The only really critical question is - Do you like the piece? How it was made has no bearing on that, only whether it can properly be called a fractal. Title: Re: A Kat made with flame programs Post by: thom on July 10, 2013, 10:55:50 PM I should have been more specific about Silk...I did mean http://weavesilk.com/. I saved some of the texture with a screen capture program and used Photobrush to convert it to a png.

There's no harm in posting offshoots of fractal art like this. In fact, I like it! Fair enough, sorry if I jumped the misinformation gun... It's often the case (for example on the Facebook fractal artists group) that Fractalius-processed images are posted and admired... I shouldn't be the "fractal police" or anything, sorry! Regarding the piece itself, there's a lot of black negative space, a criticism often levied at flame fractals which look a lot like this. |
