  These entities were creating fractals 220 million years ago.  Some even look a lot like things we have created around here:

no, the insight is in my eyes really the fundamental ways the universe works ... iterating simple functions :D

Infinity Imagined (http://infinity-imagined.tumblr.com/) is a pretty cool tumbler site.  Interesting thoughts and images.  And sometimes comments on the fractal nature of the universe.

no, the insight is in my eyes really the fundamental ways the universe works ... iterating simple functions :D

   Brings to mind something jehovajah said about consciousness contemplating itself recursively, each insight into the nature of self being another iteration. 

  Probably a bit more complex, and as the contemplation process is perfect in nature (no hanging digits for \pi, at least in theory), a bit more smooth as well.
