Because it's cut with stuff sticking up past the cut, I'd have to say the other part of the DE Combinate is a dIFS formula (or two?).

EDIT  :  Ummm...  There's no heightmap in that, is there?

The ascending part on top of the image looks interesting, what's going on there?

It's the intersection of another big warted ball (like the one sitting on the large front disc) with the (extruded) spike of the M-set.

And it shows that the balls have nested hollows and balls inside of them, and that there are balls underneath the M-set too.
