Title: Mandelbulb 3D. Moving color.
Post by: Ajnariom on April 01, 2013, 03:31:04 PM
Hi guys!  :howdy:
I attached the video to the message. This is my first video - sorry for the quality.
Sorry, i don't know how it say in english, but i'll try.
As you can see when I move along the fractal its color changes. As if gradient floats on the surface. I don't have the color variables in animation, only moving in space. How can I avoid this?
How to make a coloration static? Is it possible?

Hello,

if you have set the 'Col. var. on Z' (in the lighting/Object section) different to zero (select the slider and press '0' on the keyboard to set it to exact zero), there will be always color changes if you change the distance to the object. 'Z' is meaning here the distance to the object, like the Zbuffer.

But there still are changes if you approach an object because of the automatic surface detection.  There is no true surface for most fractals, the surface is always some amount in front of the estimated 'true' object and this distance will change on zooming or getting closer, because if you set 'Vary DE stop on FOV' the distance of the surface is varying on depth.

Dependend on the coloring settings and the specific formulas, the iterations and the colors might shift.
Coloring on the '2nd choice' like Orbit Trap is less affected to changes, so this option might also an option to consider.

Hi Jesse. Thanks for help.

Setting  'Col. var. on Z' to zero and turn off 'Vary DE stop on FOV' works fine for me.
