Title: Journey to the Cathedral
Post by: Don Whitaker on March 25, 2013, 08:01:52 PM
Here are a couple of my most recent Mandelbulb 3D animations.

Journey to the Cathedral is a timelapse screencast I captured as I was searching out a new 'filming location'. Sort of like a picture-in-picture effect as I display various renders throughout the process.

And here is a slow fly-over I created of the same Amazing Surface scene. I thought this one would never finish rendering. ;)  1920x1080 at 2x antialias

yes, that's insane for a cpu renderer, but you tweaked out a tremendous image quality.
the starting sculpture looks familiar to me. You had a similar still frame?

nice work!

Thank you taurus66 and weavers.

Yes, I posted a still image before I started rendering. I was pretty happy with the results, but I think my next project will be lo-rez. :)

Oh wow.  :verysurprised: That was really amazing. The surface looks like solid rocks and the lightning and shadows are perfect. A surreal world somewhere in space.

Thank you Dinkydau and schizo. I did spend extra time on the lighting for this one, I'm glad it paid off.  ;D

Absolutely beautiful fly-over Don.  Great lighting and atmosphere.  AA is definitely a monumental test of patience, but the end result is usually worth it, as in this case.
