Title: Smooth life
Post by: s31415 on February 16, 2013, 10:32:20 AM
Hi,

Not really a topic about fractals, but there is an interesting continuous version of Conway's game of life. You can see many videos here:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL69EDA11384365494
including 3d versions.

A program can be downloaded here (I haven't tried it yet):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/smoothlife/
and the paper explaining what's going on is here:
http://arxiv.org/abs/1111.1567

This video is the cutest:

Very nice... now, this really looks like life... at least at a microscopic level.

Very cool videos. I wonder if I can use that circular symmetry on my fractal automata... they just have square symmetry at the moment.
