Title: Zooming in problem
Post by: Jim Blue on January 24, 2013, 04:27:30 AM
In some images, increasing the zoom only works up to a certain point, then little or no change happens. Here's an example with zoom set to 2. Increasing the zoom factor to 200 doesn't zoom in much farther.

Is this a bug or a feature? (I'm new to Mandelbulb 3d.)

Zoom doesn't work exactly as you would think in M3D. Better use the "walking" buttons in the 3D navigator ("3Dnavi"). Nice hybrid BTW!

Thanks, Madman.

I should have acknowledged that the image came from http://mario837.deviantart.com/art/Corner-at-Stone-City-245668744, with some changes.

Yes zooms does not always work as expected i believe  for peculiarities of some fractals and not for defect in the zoom implementation

Some other workaround are

1) instead then zoom lower the DOF
not the same effect but allow close up of object that can't be zoomed in

2) In case of object that fade away and tend to vanish when zooming in:
raise the "Depth of field" value

3) as already suggested use "wank" bottons instead then zooming

Usually i got more luck with 1 and 2 , but are cases were 3 solve well

Better use the "walking" buttons in the 3D navigator ("3Dnavi").

Just to mention, the 3d navi also has its strict limits. try to zoom in and out this one, without setting values manually. it is possible, but almost inhuman...

Thank you for inserting the params, this is an issue when "in and outside" rendering is activated in the formula options!

Will be fixed in the next update, in the meanwhile you can choose the default "outside" rendering option and the navigation should work like expected.

All other problems of zooming in 3D that does not rely to the navigator i don't comment because most of the options in the main window and under the image are for 2D slice navigating, i would always use the navigator for 3D changes.
And by pressing F6 you can always navigate without automatic "zooming" if DE is failing.

cheers

wow, you can't imagine, what it took to get there (mandelbulber port) - fixed step size 300 and about five minutes mousewheel turning. LOL
approves the old thesis, that 98% of computer errors are sitting in front of a monitor...

Thanks for the "smart" fix!

In fixed stepsize you have to manually change the "zoom" by mousewheel or clicking, so if travelling is to slow you must decrease the zoom...
because the stepping amount is related to this zoom factor!

Everything is quite easy if you know how  :dink:

indeed, but I still have difficulties to get used to the flood of values and sliders in m3d.
mandelbulber I understood in days, easy for me - difficult for others. In m3d it's the opposite...
