Title: Hi everybody Post by: kabuki on November 11, 2012, 05:44:38 PM I had a free version of Visions of Chaos years ago and have spent countless hours of enjoyment making and zooming in on the fractals it could make, quaternions being among my favorites, and making .midi music from math. I've used Apophis, Quat, and a few other programs since then but never found anything that could compare with VoC till I found the forums and saw the images produced by Mandelbulb on the Skytopia.com site.
The images I've seen made with Mandelbulb so far have blown me away and are much nicer than anything I ever created. I now have it installed and running under wine on my FreeBSD machine but as of yet haven't been able to make any that compare to the smooth, 3D images I saw on Skytopia. Mine are generally much rougher and not as detailed but I'm still trying to familiarize myself with the program. There is going to be a new version of FreeBSD released tomorrow and I'll be upgrading my machines so it will be a few days before I can settle down to really spend some time with it. Is there a tutorial that anyone could recommend to get me started in the right direction? I downloaded the SonicPhoto program too, to make music from images, but probably won't install it till I get everything rebuilt. I still have some of the old images I made with VoC and will see if I can't upload some of them to a gallery. I'm glad to have found the forums and am looking forward to many more hours of fractal fun in my future. Mandelbulb 3D tutorial and parameter lists Mandelbulb3D tutorial list (http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?topic=10536.msg42085#msg42085) mandelbulb 3d parameters list (http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?topic=5945.msg28538#msg28538) I have found it very helpful to deconstruct other people's parameters to find formula combinations that work well together. Also pay attention to the calculation settings, Max iterations and R bailout settings that others use. They can all make a big difference. Probably most don't look so deep;) Title: Re: Hi everybody Post by: kabuki on November 11, 2012, 10:13:18 PM Thanks a lot, those video tutorials are just what the doctor ordered. ;D |
