Paris radiates a certain ambiance of prosperity in decline. Maybe it's just me, but I always have a feeling when I walk around in Paris that I'm visiting a city that once used to be great, but can't really cope anymore with modern times. Or maybe it's just that every apartment I ever visited in Paris, made me feel like Trelkovsky was watching me from just around the corner...
