Title: Making a video from many images
Post by: granada on October 13, 2012, 08:11:54 PM
Hello there.

I have a lot of fractal images which i wish to make a video of.

I used mencoder and ffmepg but the quality is too low.

The images i rendered are 3200x2400. Some even bigger!

Those images i rendered on a cluster at my university, and i also can encode the video there if the process became to slow.

Well, my question is: How can i make a video that uses the same quality as the images i render? I wanna make an video with 1080p, so the details of the fractals will be much more visible.

Thanks for your attention.

Here are some videos that i made:

In principle it is possible, to encode your video lossless. Legarith is an example for a lossles codec. But the ammount of data you'll produce is enormous. They will vary on the input material and maybe for your line animation on black background it still will be quite handy.
But there is no way to hinder Youtube or any other Video platform to recompress them lossy. Lossless comression is still not capable for internet (or even lan) streaming.

Yup. So, lossless isnt viable, how can i encode with some good quality then? 1080p for example.

H264 codec & mov or mp4 format.

Then host that file someplace for download and only use youtube for a lower quality "preview"

Hope that helps
