Title: Render error
Post by: PhotoComix on July 04, 2012, 11:05:23 AM
M3D 1.7.9.9

While were no problem for other previous renders done using the same formula and similar setting  the last variation give a serious render error:

render start well with a previosion of about 30 minutes (no  bad for 4800x3600 ) but after about 10 minutes it block,
no error message just is no more visible any progress in the render and time prevision start to go backwards.

i even try to reduce render size to 1600x1200 and leve the computer on rendering all night:
as before it start quickly and exactly in the same point (about 1/3 of the image to render) happened the same:

after pressing for render the time prevision was about 10 minutes, after the all night rendering the rendered part was exactly at same point, no any progress, and the time passes 8h and 15m and, the previsions for the time still needed EXACTLY the same 8h and 15 minutes...i leave going checked again after breakfast, again no progress, time prevision 9h 22m time passed 9h and 22m

It is a know bug ?
any way to bypass the critical point ? ( block happens always in the same point)

Hmmm, I don't know what to tell you.

I've just rendered both params in around 2 minutes (at 1600x1200 and 1200x900)
on my little old laptop...so there does not seem to be a problem with the figures
- at least not consistent ones anyway.

No joy same problem with last beta...go well for 1/3 of the render then go stuck .

whit what version  you tried ?

i tested again the parameters 2
No way with the new or previous beta same error on the same point, at any render size i tried

but works with a older version of 1.7  i just tried.

Now i am curious to see if i may open and edit the M3i with the last beta (i want use some new light effect ) but i have to wait first the end of a very long render.

Anyway that parameters at least the 2 can't be rendered with the last beta but only with older version

that is weird !
sure i used that, but with no joy

i had to switch to a older version to avoid that error

Hmmm,

well I do seem to be able to get it to do something odd.

I note your first formula slot is empty but 2 & 3 are filled
and so I moved them forwards into 1 & 2. I then took the
size up to 4800x3600 and the estimated time was 13 mins.
(I also made the viewing size 1:1; your 1:5 will make no
difference to the render time, only the size of picture it saves.)

I took the decimal point out of the DE stop value (2.1 = 21)
and then the render decided to stop after 15 seconds and the
estimated time kept building up by a minute every couple of seconds.

I stopped it when it got to an hour 30. SO there IS something odd
about it, but what, I cannot say. Your original params were fine.

Kam

The older version render without problem and the M3i may be opened and edited with the beta

this is good and i believe restrict the search of the cause to the new functions

Maybe i found the culprit, i had "Raystep Sub DE stop " enabled from a previous tweak, but then i much lowered the DE stop value

Maybe is the combination of very low values for DE stop and "Raystep Sub DE stop " enabled the cause ?

Obviously. even if was enabled in the parameters the older M3D could not apply the "Raystep Sub DE stop " , and maybe for that rendered without problem

Good observed, nearly exact.. it is the combination of "Raystep Sub DE stop " and "Max. iterations" bigger one.
It should be fixed now in the 1.7.9.9c beta
