Title: Mandelbulber crashes after clicking Render Post by: tharpa on June 13, 2012, 03:10:01 AM Judging from the galleries, it looks like fractal software has advanced quite a bit in the past five years. (Formerly I used Fractal Explorer on Windows, and Linux software was far behind.)
I just installed Mandelbulber on Linux Mint. I click Load Example, and select Default.fract. Then I click RENDER and it silently crashes. Title: Re: Mandelbulber crashes after clicking Render Post by: JohnVV on June 17, 2012, 03:15:23 AM more information that just " running on mint " will be required for the devs to help
things like MintLinux "what" -- what version is it ? your hardware specs as in a laptop or desktop the CPU - 32 bit 64 bit ? the graphics card a built in pseudo 3d "chip" ( they are getting better but...) or a full 3d card if chip or card who made it Nvidia,AMD, intel ( chip only ) the driver for this ? the opensource ATI or nvidia nouveau OR the closed source ati or nvidia driver there is a VERY big difference in them and the versions of said drivers you will notice that i have typed a lot about the driver most of this replay - it is THAT important also seeing as this IS a linux install you have access to a real and full fledged TERMINAL a terminal that IS useful ( unlike the windows cmd ) run Mandelbulber from the terminal and POST the error that you get Title: Re: Mandelbulber crashes after clicking Render Post by: Buddhi on June 17, 2012, 10:18:12 AM As said JonnVV, I need much more information to say what could be wrong. The most inportant is the output which you had in the console.
For now I'm suggesting to recompile the program under your system. There could be some incompability between delivered binaries and libraries which you have in your system. The program was compiled under Debian. To compile the program you have to unpack the archive and from folder makefiles just run "make all". To make this successfully you need to have installed gtk+2.0 development packages (I don't know exact name of these packages on Mint) Title: Re: Mandelbulber crashes after clicking Render Post by: JohnVV on June 18, 2012, 02:52:23 AM before rebuilding lets see what the terminal out put is
it might be just a simple thing but building the program is VERY easy ( installing ?? well that is a different matter and Mandelbulber is STILL a newish program ) A manual install will be needed - not hard just a few extra steps and AS A RULE it is normally better to just build from source if the program IS NOT in your distros. repo. make sure that the development tools and autotools are installed i just pulled SVN revision 261( a bug fix ) pull a copy Code: svn checkout http://mandelbulber.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ Mandelbulber open a terminal in the "makefiles" folder and type in ( one of a few things ) Code: make -j "all " is ASSUMED to be typed even when it is not ( it IS a default ) the -j and -j3 is use ALL the CPU cores in building or 3 of them ( i have a intel i5 on this box and use 3 of the 4 cpu cores ) all of the above will take about 5 min. Title: Re: Mandelbulber crashes after clicking Render Post by: Buddhi on June 18, 2012, 08:07:44 AM I do not reomment to get source code from SVN repository. If you get the latest version from SVN this could have some major bugs or some parts of program could be in development stage. It's much better to download source from http://code.google.com/p/mandelbulber/downloads/list where you have version ready for release (tested). |
