Title: Fractal Science Kit 1.7 Released
Post by: Ross Hilbert on November 03, 2008, 02:46:56 PM
Hi,

I have just released version 1.7 of the Fractal Science Kit fractal generator.

Several new Orbital Equations have been added:

  - Koch Snowflake (Variations)
  - Symmetric Attractors
  - Symmetric Attractors (Search)
  - Frieze Group
  - Frieze Group (Search)
  - Wallpaper Group - Square Lattice
  - Wallpaper Group - Square Lattice (Search)
  - Hyperbolic Attractors

See the end of the Orbital Fractal Gallery for a few example images produced with these programs:
  - http://www.fractalsciencekit.com/gallery/orbital.htm (http://www.fractalsciencekit.com/gallery/orbital.htm)

Many of these programs are based on work done at Lafayette College lead by Dr. Clifford A. Reiter. Dr. Reiter and his students have written a series of papers related to Chaotic attractors and symmetry.

See Dr. Reiter's web page for details at:
  - http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~reiterc/ (http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~reiterc/)

Other notable changes in this release:

  - Improved the Orbital fractal adaptive smoothing algorithm.
  - Improved the performance of the algorithm used to find strange attractors.

For the complete list of changes see the release notes at:
  - http://www.fractalsciencekit.com/support/release.htm (http://www.fractalsciencekit.com/support/release.htm)

Finally, I have written a Fractal Programming Tutorial that introduces you to the key concepts involved in writing your own fractal programs for the Fractal Science Kit fractal generator.
