Here is 1.798 generated log file.
I have pretty strange default font. I hadn't good unicode font working with both english and russian and all the software I have, so I used this (DS Sholom Medium) as default. It is hard to watch, but it works. http://www.benzion.ru/main.php?topic=download&page=fonts (http://www.benzion.ru/main.php?topic=download&page=fonts)

But a font shouldn't be the reason for M3D failing to initialise, coz switching to arial font don't solves this problem.

Thank you Asdam, hopefully the report will show the exact location of the issue so i will see what the problem is.

Thx 0Encrypted0 too, yep i forgot the 4d rotations to copy, flickering scrollbar is strange, what OpSystem?
There are many less important issues with the display, mostly in emus.

A quick glance on 1.7999999:

... what OpSystem?

I've experienced the same in Win7 pro. But just sometimes ... and only on rollover if the Nav-Window is not active or on mousewheel when not hit a slider before.

Btw .... wow. Transparency and refraction. :D  You know that calls for caustics!
And how about self-luminuous? ;)  :angel1:

Sorry, just joking ... thanks a lot Jesse

translucency? on arbitrary formulas?! :D

If you got the time  :dink:
But it is similar to reflections, with complicated surfaces you receive noise.
And it needs more effort to be useful, for example if you wants water with a ground, the minDE is not enough because you also have take care if the raymarch is changing the objects somehow.  Else there is nothing under the water...

How does it react with DoF? Is it just like a texture?

(program functions inserted on the right side, maybe i skipped a row.. does not matter)

So it must be a strange component that was not found when trying to make the navis formular on startup.
Dunno what exact component class this is, but i can remove an old, not used anymore, one that might causes it.
If you (@Asdam) like to test modified versions please give me a not in a pm and i will send it to you.

Thanks again!

ps: i got the feeling that the new compiler has some issues, like that strange behaviour with MengerHyper and navi i can not figure out  :-\

Access violation with _TranslateRnd
One when updating parameter in Navi window.
Other from opening Navi window.
Tried this on several parameter files.

WIndows 7 Pro 64bit

Thanks 0Encrypted0,

these addresses does not point to the main program so i assume that this issue occured in the dynamic loaded formulas themself.
If you are sure that it is related to the _TranslateRnd formula, i will forward this issue to Luca who made it.
Maybe he used memory for the random seed evolving where he shouldnt do?

Title: Re: Mandelbulb1.798 testfile
Post by: DarkBeam on June 19, 2012, 11:21:47 AM
The _TranslateRnd is not using any additional memory other than the stack, ESI + D0 (itercount), and the normal memory :) cannot help much :sad1:

Maybe it's not so good to mix mul dword and mul qword? The only weird thing that I have done. Anyway everytime I use the itercount some strange things happen? Maybe it's not at ESI + D0 at this point? :-\

I don't think an overflow matters because singles and doubles can store gigantic numbers without trouble

Title: Re: Mandelbulb1.798 testfile
Post by: DarkBeam on June 19, 2012, 11:25:33 AM
Another strange thing that I noticed, is that ABOXVSSHAPES does not work well with a particular kind of shape, even if the code of that formula is the same for all shapes except for the shape distance evaluation. That shape uses 3 comparations while others only 1-2, so maybe it's the issue? Or because we are not using WAIT after FCOM? :-\ Cannot understand much. I can send the code if needed.

(also mengerhyper uses lots of comparations, maybe the trouble is here!)

PLEASE, retry now with new formulas. There was a typo in the formula. Don't know if it was the cause of the troubles. Please re-download and report all errors you find! Thanks! :)

I did not find an updated _TranslateRnd.m3f in newformulas.zip 30.5
I tried the updated _RotateRnd.m3f and had no problem.

Here is a parameter file that has the problem when _TranslateRnd is added.
Note that the access violation occurs when render is set to inside & outside.
It just hangs up the program without an access violation when set to outside render.

Hope this helps.
Thanks for all your hard work.

This parameter contains just one formula while the buggy one contained 6 of them? :dink:

Just one formula, others were transformations.
Notice that some of the formula tabs were not active (no dot).

Anyway, the updated _TranslateRnd works!

Thank you.

Wow, good to know, you was greatly helpful to spot that tricky bug!

I had idea. Meaybe formulas needs small primitive hints on the screen. Like when on the road are written "look to the right". Such us, zoom out or hybridise this with A-box. I meant, realy direct.

Should be very annoying. :dink:

Another strange thing that I noticed, is that ABOXVSSHAPES does not work well with a particular kind of shape, even if the code of that formula is the same for all shapes except for the shape distance evaluation. That shape uses 3 comparations while others only 1-2, so maybe it's the issue? Or because we are not using WAIT after FCOM? :-\ Cannot understand much. I can send the code if needed.

(also mengerhyper uses lots of comparations, maybe the trouble is here!)

Nope, no problems with comparisons and the other stuff, as long a dword (fp) access contains a valid single and a qword a valid double value...
Wait is only good for handling fp errors, they are masked in m3d anyways  :dink:
MengerHyper has only a to simple analytic calculation as i tols in pm, the issue with the navi is a strange thing that does not belong to the formula.  But fixing the analytic calculation is a must in my eyes, if this is possible of course.  Everytime you stretch or punch the metric you must adjust the analytic value...

@Asdam:

I updated the test file: Mandelbulb3d v1.799 is out!!! ..dunno if the W2000 problem is still there, please try out!

WOOOW Transparency has a separate adjuster! This is incomparably better, thanks a lot! :surprised:
Now I test, test and test! O0

Well, I got the same result with 1.799 version. Program failed to initialise. But it created shorter log file, which do not mentions fonts.

Thanks Adam, same issue with it... uploaded a new version (1.799b) with the MengerHyper+Navi fix and also a small change that might caused the W2000 problem (would be luck).

So, here is a bug that has its own life throught the _9x ´s:

Positional light with view turned on does not render correctly in animation:

in _93 the animation is ok but the light source itself renders wrong, far deeper in z than the plane it should (see pic)
in _98 the animation jumps and the depth problem is still occurring.
in _99b the z position seems to work well, but the animation still jumps
Also, if I interpolate a new keyframe, it does not take light into the calculation.

Strangely, preview though seems to work fine for the animation in both 98 and 99b

I´d love to see this working..

Chers!

So, here is a bug that has its own life throught the _9x ´s:
...
in _99b the z position seems to work well, but the animation still jumps

Strangely, preview though seems to work fine for the animation in both 98 and 99b

Thanks Boya, did many testings only in preview  :sad1:
...already found the reason for jumps, no prob to fix it!
The other issues were found on the latest betas, so this should work now hopefully.

Also, if I interpolate a new keyframe, it does not take light into the calculation.

Yes, that is because of lights were transformed into another format and then interpolated, but i could do some interpolations in the direct header... at least for poslights.

It went back to fonts. I will try to test on public PC, maybe I 'll find W2k machine.

Sh..

Great!

Getting the poslight to animate like I want is kind of hard now, at least with kframe interpolation turned on.
If fit works for you I´d be happy.

I´m still getting some stereo disparity problems as discussed in the thread started by Crunchy.
Am I to assume the fix which came with _98 does not apply to animation yet?
