Title: Combining Big Render- can't save in some file format
Post by: wilykat on May 31, 2012, 08:40:52 PM
I was under the impression that JPEG doesn't have real size limit and Google search showed that JPEG could easily do 65kx65k but when I stitch the images from mandelbulb3D's Big Render and the resulting image is bigger than 30k vertically or horizintally, the only save option I get from Photoshop is PSB, RAW, or TIFF

I wanted to save them either in JPEG PNG format for file size while leaving the original image segment in PNG. So either Photoshop doesn't like huge image size saved in common image format with compression or something within preference is not set right.  Or should I download something for saving in JPEG/PNG file format?

Try to use 64-bit version of GIMP program. As I know JPEG is limited to 65536x65536. PNG format has 32-bit fields for dimensions, so the size is almost unlimited if you use 64-bit software. However many programs use only 16-bit variables for image size (e.g. Windows GDI limitation) with 32k limit.

I have tested to save 100000x50 image with GIMP with success in PNG format (on 64-bit Linux). In JPG it was not possible. I haven't tried this under Windows, but I think it should also work.
